Baked Apple Dessert in Jars

2 bags of the already-sliced apples will work for this recipe. The only apple chore then is peeling and chopping the apples.

If you aren't eating this dessert right out of the oven, microwave it for 20 to 30 seconds before serving.

Desserts in Jars

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 (10-oz.) pkg. shortbread or oatmeal cookies, crushed
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
6 cups (6 medium) sliced peeled apples
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/3 cup chopped almonds, if desired

Directions

Spray jars with non-stick cooking spray. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt 6 tablespoons of butter or margarine over medium heat. Add cookie crumbs, 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon; stir over heat for 3 minutes. Transfer crumbs to bowl; set aside.

Chop the apples into bite-size pieces.

To the skillet or Dutch oven, add remaining 2 tablespoons margarine, apples, 1 tablespoon sugar and lemon juice. Cover; cook about 10 minutes over medium heat until apples are tender, stirring frequently.

In glass jars, layer half of apple mixture and half of crumbs; top with remaining apples, crumbs and almonds. Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes.
