If you can find them, there are also silicone flowerpot cake molds that look like terra cotta.
Flower Pot Cupcakes
There are many different ways to decorate flower pot cupcakes. The fresh carnation inserted into a straw by "The Imagination Tree" is one.
Or stick a lollipop in the cupcake, add gummy leaves, sprinkle a little cookie or chocolate on white icing for the "dirt".
Or just buy some funky flowers at a craft store and stick them in!
Also available are silicone reusable "flowerpot" cake molds. Don't frost and make the cake resemble a pile of dirt - add a gummy worm.
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
Cream butter or margarine, sugar and vanilla in large mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs; beat well. Combine flour and baking soda; add alternately with chocolate syrup to creamed mixture.
Place a paper cupcake liner in each flowerpot; fill half full of batter.
Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool; frost with chocolate frosting.
Makes 30 cupcakes.
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan, mix together chocolate chips, condensed milk and salt. Cook and stir on medium heat until chocolate chips melt; cook and stir 3 minutes more. Remove from heat; let cool for 15 minutes. With electric mixer on medium, beat in confectioners’ sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
Frost the cupcakes in the flowerpots. Cut a green straw in half (to represent the flower stem). Add a carnation or other fresh flower in the straw.
Yield: about 1 1/2 cups.
