Pineapple Oatmeal Smoothies Recipe
This recipe fills 4 8-oz glass jars.
Smoothies are not only time-saving but ones like these are excellent in nutritional value also. Get fit the easy way!
These can be frozen in the 8-oz. glass canning jars. Just let the smoothies rest in the refrigerator for 4 hours or overnight before freezing them so the oats and chia seeds can soften.
Recipe for Oatmeal Smoothies
Be sure to use the correct oats when making these smoothies. The container should say Old Fashioned Oats.
if you will be freezing the smoothies, leave a little room at the top of the jar for expansion - don't fill the jar completely full.
If smoothies are frozen, just remove from freezer the night before eating and put it in the refrigerator. It will be liquid by morning.
These can also be made with regular low-fat vanilla yogurt rather than Greek yogurt.
|1/2 cup uncooked old fashioned rolled oats
3 teaspoons chia seeds
1 1/2 cup almond milk
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup low-fat Greek yogurt
2 cups fresh pineapple
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
Put the oats and chia seeds in blender and blend on high until they are the consistency of flour.
Add the milk and juice to the blender and stir well to be sure the oat mixture isn't stuck to the blender parts.
Add the yogurt, pineapple, vanilla and honey or maple syrup. Blend on high speed for about 1 minute or until smooth.
Pour into 4 8-oz. glass jars. Refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight. Then may be frozen.
Yield: 4 8-oz. glass jars.
Variations of the Oatmeal Smoothie - Different Flavors
Replace the pineapple above with:
1. Strawberry Oatmeal Smoothie
3 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
2. Peach Oatmeal Smoothie
2 cups fresh or frozen peaches
3. Strawberry Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothie
1 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
4. Chocolate Strawberry Oatmeal Smoothie
4 bananas, frozen and cut into chunks
1 cup frozen strawberries
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
5. Blueberry Oatmeal Smoothie
2 cups frozen blueberries
1 cup sliced banana
6. Cherry Oatmeal Smoothie
1 1/2 cups frozen or fresh cherries
Also use cherry juice in place of the orange juice
**The orange juice in the original recipe can also be replace with 100% juices like Citrus Mango Pineapple juice.
The honey or maple syrup may be replaced with a sweetener of your choice.
It's not necessary to thaw frozen fruit.
